Brian Shelley

Partner & CFO

Brian Shelley is a founding partner and Chief Financial Officer of Colmena Group. Brian has been part of Colmena’s related entities since 1998 and developed valuable experience in accounting, financial management, due diligence, operations, financing structures, asset valuation, and marketing. Over the past 23 years, he has worked with all types of investors that include small to large family offices, high net worth individuals and institutional investors. Brian has extensive experience in complex real estate transactions and developments including multiple 1031 exchanges. At Colmena Group, Brian focuses on investment and portfolio management, equity sourcing, and deal structure. Brian has developed successful business strategies managing private equity, direct investments, and other operating business investments for over two decades.

In addition to his real estate and investment experience, Brian was a part-owner in proprietary career education for 17 years and served as the Chairman of the Board for Eagle Gate and Provo College from 2016 – 2018 until he and his partners sold the schools to a private equity company/college headquartered in California. With a wide range of responsibilities throughout his career, Brian has extensive experience in budgets, marketing, audits, contract negotiation, fund-raising, and executive level operations. 

Beyond Brian’s professional career, he has a passion and love for college basketball having over 20 years’ experience in Men’s Division I College Basketball Officiating. He is a member of the Senior Leadership Officiating Staff that oversees 150 current Division I basketball referees, including in-season referee training & development, performance/game evaluation, and recruitment of new/prospective officials. He also serves as a board member for the Utah Junior Golf Association. 

Brian is a lifelong resident of Utah, growing up in Utah County and moving to Salt Lake County over 25 years ago. He is a proud husband and father of three boys.
